Furniture Refinishing!

I'm really loving this part of my job right now. I did a quick reupholstering of a seat that turned out pretty cute and I refinished a plain entry table into a brand new piece.

I was also entrusted with a family heirloom that I couldn't wait to bring back to life! It's a desk that sat in the office of a bakery for decades. It was worn and dirty. I spent a good chunk of time just cleaning it with wood cleaner and a steel wool pad. I didn't get any pictures of the desk before I started cleaning it but I took pictures of the whole process with the drawers. I brought them home so that I could work on them separately.

Here's a close up of a couple drawers...
I just used warm, soapy water and steel wool for the drawers...

Here's a comparison after just cleaning...

Next, I took the handles off and started sanding. I couldn't believe how nice some of them turned out!

Here's another comparison. The one on the left is sanded. The one on the right is just cleaned.

Then it was time for a new finish...
The last step was several coats of wax...

And here's the whole thing back together...

It's not 100% back to life but that's not what my client wanted. It still has plenty of character. I'm looking forward to more furniture refinishing. I have two more pieces waiting in my garage that were given to me for free. I can't wait to see how they turn out!
