Custom Built-in

The picture on the left is what was there originally. It served a purpose. The homeowner didn't use it though. Instead, she wanted more storage. So I started by pulling the old parts out.
Next, I cut 1/2" boards to size and then put shelf pin holes in them and painted them. Then I installed them along the sides, leaving spaces for fixed shelves. There was a light switch and an outlet that needed to be worked around as well.

So I cut holes in the board and added electrical box extenders so that they could still be used.
Then I added the shelves and started building the drawer.

I added trim to the front of the fixed shelves and later added more trim to the sides. Next, I started to build the drawer front and the doors.
Once I had all of that in place, I had one more thing left to work into the design. The client wanted shelf above the drawer to slide out. Wonderful idea! It took a bit of thinking and rethinking but I finished that last detail today.

I just love it when I get to create something totally unique! It's even better when it's a collaborative design. You can't get more custom than that. Who else wants a built-in? I want to do more!
